Hello Dear One,
How's the weather where you are? It keeps changing here. First, it snows, then we have bright sunshine, an hour later wind knocks over plant pots or rain lashes at my window. Sometimes I feel like this; like I can’t get a handle on my mood. Writing helps.
People often ask when they should write – and there are no rules. The most important thing is that it feels good, or helpful. You can follow Julia Cameron’s morning pages and write three free-hand pages every morning, but writing can also be a place to go, whenever you need it. Sometimes it’s like a release valve. At other points, it can feel sticky and daunting, especially if it’s been a while since you put pen to paper.
Over the past year, I’ve found myself writing more at night. It helps me clear the mental chatter building in my subconscious and affirm what’s real, instead of what my anxious self is telling me. You can free write - put your pen on the page and see what comes, or try the prompts below.
I hope it helps. Be wary of cutting yourself off too soon – my experience is that it takes at least ten minutes to get to the good stuff. And remember you aren’t trying to shape a version of your life. You are in your life, articulating how you feel about it.
If you’d like some nurture and support check out my ME membership or come along to my drop-in writing for self-care workshop on Thursday. All of you is so welcome.
Thanks for being here and being you.
All love,
Jo

AND FINALLY
If these letters help like, share, comment, reply (really - I love hearing from you) or buy me a coffee.
And if, like me, you don’t have a real fire but love the sound: use this.
What I need to hear in the morning written IN BIG LETTERS and left out overnight—definitely will try this!
