Hello Dear One,
I have the joy of staying at a friend’s house this week and– as happens in the north of Scotland – there’s been lots of rain.
A few days ago I cosied down for a journaling session. Life feels transitional at the moment, partly the seasons, partly emerging from the post-pandemic haze, and partly the way life is ever-shifting.
Writing anchors me. It helps me come back to myself: to see clearly where I’m ignoring or numbing something; what I’m not saying; where I’ve done well and what I deserve to celebrate. It also helps voice the anxious thoughts bubbling beneath the surface and see them for what they are – thoughts – rather than truth. It helps shed light on where I’m being too hard on myself, clears clutter and brings clarity. As a result of less than an hour with my notebook, I experienced full presence and happiness in the moment the following day. I wasn't beating myself up or fretting: I just felt joy.
I’m a fan of free-writing (keeping your pen moving without direction) because it offers us a chance to notice the patterns. There are only so many times you can write something that isn’t true – I’m fine springs to mind – without digging a little deeper. Asking questions helps us loosen up.
So take a little time. Pick and choose from the prompts below, even as a springboard to get you thinking.
I hope it helps. Whether you check in with yourself once a day or once a month the process has lots to offer.
Thanks for being here and being you.
All love,
Jo
